"Day of Silence" Get Noisy

Nearly 500 of the 1400 students at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Washington didn’t show up on Friday. Instead, some 80 students and parents gathered for a Day of Silence to show support for gay and lesbian rights. Pastor Ken Hutcherson (who’s daughter attends the school) and about 100 supporters gathered outside where they prayed and sang - behind yellow crime-scene tape put in place by police to keep them apart from several dozen counterdemonstrators. They chanted and banged on drums to dispute the pastor. More than 7,000 school and colleges around the country observed the national Day of Silence.
