Most Americans oppose gay marriage by 57-40% in a new Gallup Poll. In 1996 the percentage was 68-27%. Here are some other findings from the survey:
Only 18-to-29-year-olds favor gay marriage: 59-37%
Moderates favor gay marriage: 50-46%
Most Americans favor allowing gays to adopt: 54%
A slim majority believe gay relations between consenting adults should be legal: 56-40%
