Barack Obama and his family attended 19th Street Baptist Church this morning. It’s not known which church he will decide to attend regularly after he is swore into office. His office says the first family will likely visit a number of Washington churches.
Obama received a standing ovation from the congregation. He sat in the second row. The sermon titled For Such a Time as This included a message about God preparing people for challenges ahead. A prayer was offered after the sermon that concluded “yes we can.. in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.” Yes, We Can was an Obama campaign theme. Obama is not a member of any church at the moment. He resigned from the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago this past year following the Jeremiah Wright controversy.
