One Year Ago.. Chapman's Daughter Killed

One of the the daughters of Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman was killed near Nashville on this day one year ago. Five-year-old Maria was run over by an SUV driven by her teenage brother in the family driveway. She had been adopted from China along with two other girls. The award-winning singer founded Shaohannah's Hope, a foundation that helps financially assist couples in the adoption process. The 45-year-old singer wrote a book about being a father called Cinderella: The Love of Daddy and his Princess.

Steven Curtis Chapman won the Dove Award for artist of the year tonight in Nashville. This is the seventh time he’s won the top honor. Last year, Chapman’s seven-year-old daughter was killed when she was accidentally hit by a vehicle driven by her older brother at the family's home. Other winners:

Chapman's Daughter Marries

The oldest daughter of Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman has gotten married. Emily Chapman married Tanner Richards last month at the Chapman’s Franklin, Tennessee home.

Just six months ago, the Chapman's 5-year-old daughter Maria Sue was killed in a car accident by a vehicle driven by her brother. The family buried her in a bridesmaid dress to match those worn at her oldest sister's wedding.

Chapman to Talk about Daughter's Death

Steven Curtis Chapman will make the rounds on the TV talks shows this week to talk about his 5-year-old daughter’s death. He’s confirmed for Good Morning America tomorrow and Larry King Live Thursday night. Maria Sue was accidentally hit by an SUV driven by her brother. Chapman will tour this fall with Michael W Smith. Maria was one of three girls the Chapmans had adopted from China and the accident has led to a surge in donations to Shaohannah's Hope, a non-profit organization the family started to help adoptions.

Smith & Chapman Tour

Christian singers Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman plan to tour together this fall, stopping in more than 20 cities. The United Tour starts October 9^th in Columbus, Ohio and ends November 8^th in St. Augustine, Florida. The two have recently worked together on bhalf of the charity Compassionart. Smith has a new worship album due out in late October called A New Halllelujah.

Chapman Back on Road

Steven Curtis Chapman is getting ready to perform again. The Christian singer cancelled all his public appearances after adopted daughter, Maria Sue Chapman, was accidentally run over and killed by her brother. His first concert will take place July 11^th at the Lifest Christian Festival in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. There are more than a dozen US commitments Chapman will fulfill between July and September. But his appearances in other counties will be cancelled.

"emotionally devastating" now but still beautiful.

Chapman Memorial

The two-hour memorial service for the daughter of Steven Curtis Chapman drew about 1500 people to Nashville’s Christ Presbyterian Church. The five-year-old adopted girl was killed when her 17-year-old brother hit her while driving an SUV in the driveway of the family's home in Franklin, Tennessee. He raised more than $340,000 in the last six months for Shaohannah's Hope through the Change for Orphans campaign. Families in need of financial aid to adopt a child will benefit from the funds.
