Benny Hinn's Son Arrested

The son of evangelist Benny Hinn is back in the U.S. after allegedly "beating up" a deaf man in Brazil during "one of his father's events" over the weekend. According to local newspapers, the elder Hinn was on stage when Joshua Hinn grabbed a man who he thought was going to throw water on his father. The man, Hestephenson Araujo, wasn't able to speak and explain his actions--he brought a bottle of water with him so that Hinn could use it to "bless" him. The deaf man had to go to the hospital after Hinn and two American bodyguards took him to a trailer park and beat him up in the northern Brazilian town of Manaus. Araujo's father says Hinn's representatives talked him into not press charges--by offering a "large sum of money".

Benny Hinn Lawsuit

A lawsuit against Benny Hinn claims the televangelist broke a morality clause in a contract between them. Strang Communications says it gave Hinn $300,0000 for three books he was going to write and Strang was going to publish. But the suit claims he violated a morality clause in the book contract when he started what's described in the document as an "inappropriate relationship" with another popular charismatic figure, namely, Paula White. The court document says Hinn admitted to having an "inappropriate relationship" with White this past fall and agreed to return the money but he never has given it back. A tabloid newspaper printed pictures of the couple last year entering and leaving an Italian hotel, holding hands. Both have denied a romantic relationship, although White has been divorced twice and last year Hinn's wife left him and filed for divorce.

Benny Hinn Money Plea

Benny Hinn is asking followers for $2 million to help with his ministry's debt. Donations dropped following a scandal reported about his in the National Enquirer. Read more about that here. Hinn, however, blames poor offerings at international appearances that did not cover his expenses in Indonesia.

The video below of the televangelist has been making the rounds on the Internet. Shot in 2006 it shows Hinn using what he calls "God's Jacket" to attempt to heal blind, deaf, people with cancer and AIDS. Benny Hinn Ministries reportedly rakes in more than $200 million each year.

Benny Hinn Accused of Affair

Benny Hinn is denying reports he has had an affair with Without Walls International Church senior pastor Paula White. Both have statements on their websites objecting to a National Enquirer report that they've become romantically involved. It includes photos of the two holding hands on what the paper calls a "romantic trip to Rome." White is twice divorced and Hinn's wife filed for divorce earlier this year. The Hinns have been married for 30 years. Both of their ministries are being investigated by Iowa Republican Senator Charles Grassley for possible violations of rules set down by the IRS about nonprofit organizations.

HINN COOPORATES, COPELAND DIGS IN

Televangelist Benny Hinn has turned over material to the Senate Finance Committee in response to a request from Iowa Senator Charles Grassley. At the same time, Kenneth Copeland is rejected the same request, telling supporters in a letter this month Grassley is targeting prosperity teachers. Grassley's office has begun getting calls from Copeland supporters complaining about the probe. Atlanta-ministers Creflo Dollar and Eddie Long are also refusing to send any information to Grassley. His request to Paula and Randy White have gone unanswered.

PROBE OF TV MINISTRIES

Another set of letters are expected to go out from Senator Charles Grassley in his probe of Christian television ministries. The top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee already put the spotlight on Creflo Dollar, Bishop Eddie Long, Joyce Meyer Kenneth Copeland Benny Hinn and Randy and Paula White. Grassley wanted to know how they are spending their money and how they are governed. Some have not cooperated and Grassley’s new letters will be asking why. Christianity Today magazine has suggested in an editorial that the probe is overstepping the Senator’s authority while the head of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability and the editor of Charisma magazine say they support Grassley’s effort.

ORU RESIGNATIONS

Benny Hinn and I.V. Hilliard have resigned from the board of Oral Roberts University. The university has also settled with John Swails, one of the three professors who have filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the school. The suit sparked a spending scandal involving its former president, Oral Robert’s son, Richard Roberts. There’s no word on why they quit. Televangelists Jesse Duplantis and Creflo Dollar resigned from it last month. Both Hinn and Dollar are being investigated by Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley. He questions whether th`ey and four other ministers are violated their organizations' tax-exempt status by their extravagant lifestyle. Both deny doing anything wrong.
