The Twilight Series
A young, Mormon mother of three has become a publishing sensation with a series of books called Twilight. Stephenie Meyer work includes Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and now Breaking Dawn. Thousands of teenage girls lined up at bookstores all over the country to get a copy of the latest one. Time magazine and USA Today have compared her to J.K. Rowling (who wrote the Harry Potter series). Look for the first Twilight movie to come out at the end of the year. The series is about a typical girl who falls in love with a vampire. The books are fairly innocent and promote abstinence. There’s even a group of mom’s who are into the series. You can read about their enthusiasm for the book at TwilightMoms.com.

Barack Obama said, “As a starting point, it means I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and that I am redeemed through him. That is a source of strength and sustenance on a daily basis. I know that I don't walk alone, and I know that if I can get myself out of the way, that I can maybe carry out in some small way what he intends. And it means that those sins that I have on a fairly regular basis hopefully will be washed away.” Quoting from the book of Matthew, Obama said it also meant an obligation to “the least of these.”

Counting Evangelicals in the Presidential Race
About 4-out-of-10 Americans say they are Evangelicals. And among this group that say they are likely to vote in the presidential election, John McCain’s lead is narrow:
- McCain 39%
- Obama 37%
- Undecided 23%
But instead of asking people whether they are Evangelicals, The Barna Group asks a series of questions to determine whether the respondent fits into the traditional understanding of evangelicals.
Barna’s more restrictive figures show only 8% of Americans really qualify as Evangelicals. Among those people in this group who say they are likely to vote, McCain’s lead blooms:
- McCain 61%
- Obama 17%
- Undecided 14%

However, wire reports quote the FBI as saying Victoria Osteen, "failed to company with the flight attendant's instructions and they were asked to leave the plane." But that wasn't the end of it. Flight attendant Sharon Brown decided to sue. She alleges Victoria Osteen assaulted her during the flight by throwing her against an airplane bathroom door and elbowing her in the chest. The Osteen’s denied these allegations.

Dobson May Switch Positions
A shift may be underway in conservative Christian politics. Focus on the Family’s James Dobson is leaning toward an endorsement of Republican presidential hopeful John McCain - something he previous has said he could not do in good conscience. In a radio broadcast to be aired Monday, Dobson says, “While I am not endorsing Senator John McCain, the possibility is there that I might." Dobson has criticized McCain for his votes on gay marriage and embryonic stem cell research. He also talks on the program with Southern Baptist Theological Seminary president Albert Mohler about Barack Obama. Dobson says Obama, “contradicts and threatens everything I believe about the institution of the family and what is best for the nation.” Dobson came under fire recently for an attack on Obama, accusing him of distorting the Bible and calling Obama’s take on the Constitution a "fruitcake interpretation".
